screen goes black in xp

hi, i have xp pro and ie6 with all updates. when i close web page to go to
another the screen briefly goes black and then finds the approppriate
website. what is causing this? thansk

Have you recently updated/upgraded your video card drivers?
If no - run your anti-virus scanner if Safe Mode.
