Screen Capture

This might be a little off topic, but it has to do with presentations.

Is there a way I can capture a sequence of desktops in and turn it into a
kind of movies of the acitons of the desktop or part of the desktop. I want
to make short movies demonstrating applications. Think AVI movies take up
too much space. Did consider capturing sceen by screen then pasting into
pages of a powerpoint presentation, but this seems very laborious. I
experienced a good example with Microsoft Mastering series, where mouse
movements and actions on the screen were replayed.

Would really appreciate someone steering me in the right direction.

I would recommend Camtasia Studio. It captures as AVI, but then you can use
their tools to easily convert to Flash. You can see an example at

Flash file is 1.2 MB and includes narration.

I think Lotus ScreenCam does that - i.e. it doesn't make an AVI, but
captures screen grabs and mouse movement.

Yes, this is the application I was looking for. It also allows audio to be
added as you are recording the screen. It also allows files to be saved as
exe files, not requiring the recording software for playback.

Perfect.
Many thanks.

Adams, suggestion hit the mark,
File size seems managable, and i'm sure
is affected by screen size/resolution and colors.

Thanks anyway for the advice.

BTW, it can be downloaded as a trial for 15 days.
