Screen Blanks When Putting Lenovo X60 Tablet to Sleep

During the day, I go from meeting to meeting. Between meetings I put
the X60 (2G RAM, Dual Core, 1400X1050 screen, Verizon WWAN) into sleep
mode using either the power button or the Start menu selection.

All's fine until about the third or fourth time I try to put to
sleep. Then the screen turns off like it's going to sleep, but the
hard drive light keeps blinking about once every second. If I put it
in my briefcase like this, the battery dies and the system (obviously)
turns off. If I hold the power button, it will almost always shut
down -- though one time I had to remove the battery to get it to turn
off. I thought it was the IBM utilities that conflicted with Vista so
I stopped them from running at startup -- problem still occurs.

Thanks for any ideas how to stop this!

So interestingly enough, I tried a different option today, putting the X60
into hibernation between meetings. Turns out it's faster than XP was, so
it's pretty quick to come back to life. Even better, the screen worked all
day, no blanking, and no problem with coming back to life.

Oops, I spoke too soon. I put the system into hibernate before leaving home
this morning, and it froze while shutting down. I left it trying to
hibernate during my drive to the subway, and it still didn't shut down. I
was able to power off with the hardware power button. Oh well.
