Lately my Windows Media Player has sounded very distorted and scratchy whenever I play music. I checked the sound levels and they are normal. Interestingly, when I play a video, it looks and sounds great. This problem has just recently occurred. I have the latest version of Windows Media Player. But I have absolutely no clue how to fix this annoying problem. Could someone please help me?

ctmp3.acm is not fully compatible with WMP, so if the user is looking to use
WMP to playback MP3 files, the file is not needed at all. l3codeca.acm is
part of Windows and is compatible with WMP filly.

If you are having audio distortion during the playback of MP3 files,
rename the file "ctmp3.acm" on your system (to "ctmp3.bak" or something like
that). This is a Creative PlayCenter MP3 decoder that the Player isn't fully
compatible with. You
can do a Search for the file and if you find it, it should be located in:
C:\Windows\System32
If that doesn't solve the problem, you can rename the bak file to its original name.
