I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro.
It's 18 months old: but I'm still very happy with it.

Only one problem: scratches on the screen.
I have taken very close attention and have made sure my laptop is VERY
well looked after.

Cause of the problem: the damn bad design of the laptop.
The bit underneath the keyboard is the culprit: it's somehow made a
horizontal scrape on my screen.

Is there anything I can do about this?
Can I someohow repair the screen?

Can I replace the plastic?
The screen itself is fine.

Any advice would be good.

Thanks.

not a lot can be done with the soft screens which I assume it
is.............other than keep an eye on ebay for a fair price new one or
S/H............

after my daughter broke hers by leaving a pen on the keyboard and then
closing the lid :-(.............I got another second-hand but good con for
£15 off ebay, when new ones are £190.

the LCD, the part inside the lid ie

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toshiba-Satel...ryZ31569QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

they are easy to remove and replace. normally remove small rubber buffers
that cover the screws on the bezel. Undo screws and remove bezel. Prety much
remove the screws you recognise as those holding the LCD. Unplug a few micro
connectors.

is yours badly damaged.............I ask this because it does not take long
for the mind to ignore a slight scratch.................sorta like
thunderbugs which I have under my M60 lcd. the mind forgets them after a
while.................well my 55 year mind does and unfortunately much more
besides.

my one is still ok.
it's just that he white marks get on my nerves!
when seeing on white background: ok.
it's only when you have darker colours do you notice the marks.
i'll do as u recommned: keep an eye out on ebay.
thanks.

Probably too late now, but I have the same thing with an old laptop and ever
since noticing marks from the keyboard, I always keep a couple of sheets of
paper in the laptop when closed - to stop the plastic keyboard from directly
marking the screen. I now use 2 laptops and one is a Dell with a shiny black
mirror/reflection type screen (I forget what its called). Any scratches on
that will be very noticable, so like I said, I keep some paper between
keyboard and screen when closed.

If the screen has a hard glossy surface (also meaning no
anti-glare coating, unless you deem having the scratches
worse than having to polish off the coating leaving a shiney
screen), and if the scratch isn't so deep that it needs a
clear filler added, it can be polished out with fine plastic
polish. The deeper the scratch the more necessarily it may
be to start out with a (very slightly) larger particle
abrasive formula then switching to finer polish, just being
careful not to polish all the way through a coating.

Some types of paper (most types?) are fairly abrasive,
though it might be better than contacting the keyboard it
would be even better to use something like a glasses/lens
cleaning cloth instead.

hmmm very useful advice actually.
sometime ago, i used a special cleaner to clean the screen: and hey
the marks were gone!
yeee ha!
but... then shortly after... they came back... i didn't think too much
of it then.

the cleaner i used, i know is abrasize...
and hence would explain why the marks appered to have gone.
so... i think if i use this again... the marks will hopefully go...
and then i'll use a cloth or paper to protect from there on.

thanks!
