scrambled user accounts

I am trying to help out someone that has kind of a mess
going on with the user accounts. I am not quite sure the
history, but a user 'Tom' may have been put in sometime
during the initial setup and then removed by going 'Back'.

Anyway, the Users list shows 'Linda' and 'Guest' only and no
'Tom'. The Docs and Settings show a few others including the
Admin and Default and 'Tom' is there as well. Linda is the
primary (only) user and Guest is disabled.

Linda's Docs are in the Linda/My Documents. Her email files
are in the 'Tom' folders and some of the Programs are kind
of in both. I can't recall which has the current desktop.

In the TaskScheduler 'Run as' section the account of Linda
is not accepted, yet the account of Tom is. A perusal of the
registry has numerous references to Tom as the default user
including DefaultLogon yet he is not even listed as a user
in control panel

What is the best approach toward trying to get this
straightened out without creating more problems ( or a
divorce between the two <gr> ).

Thanks, I'll check that out and be back if I have questions.

Michael,

Are you sure that this is the correct KB#? This is what I
