Scrambled Excel file

Matt

I was sent an Excel file but when I open it, I get code
instead of the data I want. A typical cell
contains "<key>com.apple.print.ticket.APIVersion</key>"
or "Mz,,".

The file opens in one of two ways. Either Text Wizard
tells me I'm opening a deliminated text file and asks me
to parse the data, or I get a warning that the file is not
standard Excel. Either way, the result is the same. I'm
working with an old version of Excel 97 but got the same
result when I sent it to someone with a newer version of
Excel.

Is there any way to restore the data? I don't think I can
access the original computer the files were created on.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi Matt,

Later versions of Excel are betting at reading corrupted files. I have XL
2003 and if you want to send me your file, I'll be glad to try to assist.
Please warn me if you have any VBA code attached.

My e-mail is (e-mail address removed)

Best regards,
Kevin

Matt,

You can also try saving your file as an HTML workbook. The close your file.
Open the HTML workbook file, and then resave it as an xls file. This back
and forth method to and from HTML will often clear up a lot of corruption.

Best regards,
Kevin
