school dinners or prison dinners

Welp, the school dinner is for real and Goodfellas is a film, I wonder what lunch is like at Wormwood Scrubs?

Young Martha is to be praised, she is one bright kid, hopefully she'll go far in this world.

I was working at the school where Jamie Oliver made his school dinners program when he was there and the lunches he supervised were really very good from what I saw.

But generally speaking in my experience school dinners have always been crap. I can remember at my primary school being served two scoops of lumpy mashed potato with black bits in it, two round thick greasy slices of spam, raw grated carrot and the whole thing was covered in thick tasteless brown gloop that was supposed to be gravy but was more akin to paper glue made from cornflour.

I will say though that the afters were usually pretty good but you didn't get that unless you ate all the icky stuff that was served before it.

Bit like that line in Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall' - 'How can you have any pudding if you haven't ate your meat?'

Ah, school dinners. :)

They were pretty awful..........................except for Fridays when we got fish and chips followed by apple pie with ice cream. :)

I spotted the story about Martha and her blog yesterday morning and, followed the article's inky, purely out of curiosity... I ended-up reading through her whole blog!

It was genuinely interesting - and humorous too. So glad to hear that the stuffed shirts in her local Council have backed-down (thus allowing her to resume taking piccies again.) Great stuff. :thumb:
