Schema Master has lost it's connectivity, so it says.

Is there a way to correct the Schema FSMO role without seizing it from
another DC ???? I can not transfer the role to another DC because I keep
getting the error: Can not contact the Operation Master holder.

I have tried from Schema Master holder and from other DC's. Is there
somewhere I can look for what the error is exactly (why it can not connect
to the role holder) ?????

If I demote the DC back to a member server, will it automatically transfer
the role to someone else ??? Then I can promote again, but according to
Help pages the DC can not be returned to the network unless the hard drive
is re-formated.... Is this true ????

How can I re-obtain communications with the Schema Role holder??? Have
check the replication monitor, and all servers are current.

Please Help
TIA

The best I see you can do is to demote the current schema holder if you have
that option and during DCPROMO it will try to transfer the roles you should
receive a messages if it fails, any how you can look at a seizure if the
demotion fails to transfer the role

Yes i thought about a demotion... no real problem doing so, all other roles
have been transfered. My concern that the demotion will also fail since the
error I am receiving is saying that it basically can not contact itself. My
real question would be why not. Any idea where to start looking for the
root of the problem??? Need to be able to run /forestprep both for Win 2003
and Exchange 2003 but every try says it can not contact itself.

If I do a seizure on that role, the HD will have to be reformated inorder
for it to be on the network at all. And that, unfortunately, would require
a lot of work to do.

Come think of it, I did it (seized the roles) once before to the server, but
never re-formatted the HD, just went throw the DCPromo on it again.....
hmmmm.... wonder if that is the root of the problem....

It can be hard to find out the root problem. I'm self got a customer with
dual PDC emulators. Can you open the Schema Tool in MMC and connect? as well
ADSIEdit.msc and connect to the Schema partion?

Yes can open all tools... have checked the replication status also... I can
even see all Classes and Attributes in the schema and if I knew what to edit
in it I could probably do that... I can just not get it transfered.

Can connect to the Schema partition in ADSIedit and the Schema Tool in MMC.

Ran the netdiag -> no problems found
Ran the dcdiag -> PROBLEMS FOUND....

the server failed the KnowsOfRoleOwners test, but only for 2 of them.... the
Schema Owner and the Domain Owner.... the test gives the NTDS key and says
it has been deleted...

Is there a way to manually put the keys back in ???? or a script / repair
option ??? or a place to find the key -> has to be somewhere if the test
found it....
