If the Schema Master role is seized, can the server still remain as a member
server ???

Can the Domain Owner be seized with losing server from domain like the
schema role ????

I can not really remove the server and reset up... Also runs SQL with DB's
that need saved...

Anyone know how to fix this error:

All other roles except for these two have been transfered... Ideas ????

TIA

I assume you have tried running Dcpromo on W2KSVR but that failed for some
reason?? You should be able to demote this server, and *then* seize any
roles not automatically transferred in the process.

This will, at least, keep your SQL functioning on a Member Server called
W2KSVR..

I hope this helps,
Cameron:-)

Yes, if you mean if any/all roles owned by that DC are seized,
can you DCPromo it and leave it in the domain. yes.

You must not leave it as a DC if a roled it owned has been
seized. It must be demoted. You can even subsequently
re-Run DCPromo and make it a (new) DC but even if you
convince it that it no longer owns the role it never be
reliable until you cycle DCPromo.

BTW, it's "Domain Naming Master".

This is odd. It seems to have "fixed" itself as far as the Schema Master.
I did a reboot because I had to run some Dos based diag's on a raid-5 array
on same server, after that finished, I did another reboot and was able to
transfer the Schema Master role to another server AND was able to transfer
it back. After the reboot it was listed in the event log that it rebuilt
the Schema database. Strange... Have not check the Domain Naming Master
role yet... Is there a way to transfer that role also besides using
'ntdsutil' ????

I couldn't seem to find it anywhere on Microsoft's site...

Yes, but 1) NTDSUtil is already on your DCs. 2) there is no
better way.

(Schema Editor can do it but you have to install it and by that
time you could be finished.)
