I asked but did not receive any replies. I probably did not make my request
clear. Sorry. (maybe it's not available)

I work with a Mortgage Company that schedules numerous closings for each day
on a quasi-chalkboard. Thus it looks like a monthly calendar with approx.
10 listings in each square. The process now, is to put the prospective
customers on hold, walk back to the board........

It sure would be handy to do this on their PCs from a common data file.

Thanks in advance,

Dave H.

Hi Dave.
Why not just use a spreadsheet in a shared directory on the LAN?

MonthPlan

<quote>
MonthPlan is a very simple utility, originally developed from a request
in alt.comp.freeware, for an utility that could do meal plan calendars.

We kept it as simple as possible, so it could be used for anything where
you would want a calendar where you pick daily items from a hierarchy of
items.

Instructions: Choose the month, then click on a day to edit it. You can
also navigate with the cursor keys and press Enter.

In the edit day screen, the box on the left can be directly edited.
Double-Click on the listbox items or press Enter on focused items to add
them to the left edit box.

You can edit the list with the + buttons (one for the category, one for
the items), or edit the INI that contains the data directly.

On the main screen, you can change the top title, Open, Save or Print a
calendar (save does not save title) or start an item report.

As mentioned, a simple solution could be a spreadsheet or calendar
available from a single location. Or someone may suggest a database
or shared PIM. Or simply create a file from information already
available on a server with an additional procedural step to run the
update the calendar file program after recording the information in
that system.

If you need a more specific suggestion, please clarify your
requirements. For example:

- Everyone sees the same schedule.
- Any user can add, change (reschedule? correct other info?), delete
any appointment.
- The following information is included in the listing on the
schedule: Time? Client (Buyer?) name? Location (area or zip?
address?)? Employee name going to closing? File number? Redundancy
checks (e.g., both buyer name and file number)? Person responsible for
last entry of the information.
- Only accessible from office (no remote access).
- No other requirements for sorting or selecting other than by date.
- Presentation is one month at a time.
- No long term or recent history: current information only.
- Closings can be scheduled at most 2 weeks in advance, so current
month and next month are needed. (Or need to be able to see 4 weeks
starting with prior week. Current and next months acceptable.)
- Single user update while multiple users read. Refresh on request.
- Changed about 20 times per day.

Also clarify your environment. For example:
- Only PCs.
- All PCs on LAN and have internet access.
- Standard, reliable daily backup.

Good luck,
Bill

It's not hard to meet expenses, they're everywhere.

Your answer is probably the way I will have to go. I guess that I am a
little lazy and hoped that this wheel had already been invented.

Thank you very much,

Dave H.

Thank you Susan. The only problem is that the program is not network
compatible.\

I do however appreciate your effort,

Wow, I'm overwhelmed.

As mentioned, the office uses this chalkboard to schedule closings. These
closings occur sometimes simultaneously in two of the closeting rooms or off
premises. A two month listing is all that is required. Because I suspect
that the users will not close out of the program once an entry has been
placed, multi-user would be preferred. I know that Access has this
capability but I am not certain of Excel. Sorting is not necessary as long
as inserted entries can be placed.

Maybe as suggested, I will write a small spreadsheet and see what develops.

Thanks for your help,

Dave H.

There are many PIM/calendar products that would meet your minimal
needs, but the free ones I'm familiar with are either not multiuser or
charge for the multiuser feature. The latter is a common
differentiator between lite and standard or pro versions of calendars
and many other products. Perhaps someone will jump in with a
suggestion.

Good luck,
BillR

PS. An incomplete post similar to this may show up. Or it may not.
Depends upon what I clicked. I did mention problems with caffeine
didn't I?
