'scheduled scans' for windows defender

too-old-for-this

i am running windows xp, service pack 3, with windows defender. using
windows' own 'task scheduler', i have set up the defender to run daily at
around 2 am, with the 'wake up the computer to perform this task' option
turned ON (i'm not usually awake at that time of the morning, so the comp.
would be on 'standby')... but for unknown reasons, the 'scheduled scan'
seldom happens, and defender scans whenever it wants to. how can i make it
scan when I want it to, rather than letting it have the control?? I am the
human, it's just a program...

i've never changed the scheduler built into defender, so i don't think that's
a conflict. i have read on some of the threads here that Defender can't
'wake up' the comp. (from standby) to do a scan, and then go back into
standby when it's done; is this true? i don't want to leave the comp on 24/7
just so one piece of software will work (it currently goes to standby after 5
minutes of inactivity, with the monitor powering down at that time as well).
