Scheduled Scan Time

I just downloaded V1593 of WD. I have scheduled quickscans for 1:00 PM
daily. I notice the homepage says "Daily around 1:00 PM", notice the
*around*. I believe the previous version said *at* 1:00 PM. What's the
significance of that wording change? I can't believe they'd change the
wording without a reason, but it's not obvious to me. Thanks
Larry

Even in the Beta versions, it was an approximation of +/- one hour. This
is believed to be so implemented as to allow multiple corporate controlled
machines on a network the ability to update definitions associated with a
scan randomly over a two hour window without tying up their internet
connection with multiple concurrent downloads. The wording was changed to
more accurately reflect reality. If you want a scan to run at an exact
time, you can always schedule it through the Windows Scheduled Task
function, bypassing the WD Options implementation entirely.

Thanks Dave. I've always used scheduled scans, beta1, beta2, and now.
They've ALWAYS run at precisely the time I specified. I understand what
you're saying about the corporate situation, but I don't understand what you
mean when you say it has always been an approximation. It has NOT been an
approximation in my experience. Can you clarify? Thanks.

If you check the event view on your computer I would put money on it that the
scan was not run at the exact time the scheduler is programed for it to run.
I've run beta 2 and the new release and I've noticed the two hour window in
both versions. Some days it runs early other days it runs at the specified
times and other days it runs late.

I've run WD since it was first released (beta1, beta2 and prod) and I've
never seen it run except at the specified time. At your suggestion, I
checked my event viewer (it goes back to 10/25/06), and found the earliest
scan was at 1:00:38 and the latest was at 1:02:20 (the scheduled time is
1:00). That consistency is what prompted my original question.

Well, if the computer is sitting there idle at the secified time then yes the
scan would ussually run at the specified scan. But if you where doing
something that required more cpu usage than normal. The scan would run after
you finished what you were doing. So as not to degrade the computer to the
point that it wouldn't be usable during the scan. I've noticed if I'm using
my pc during a scan it slows considerably, if I'm doing something with
mutible programs running the scan runs after I'm done. It's just the way the
program is writen.

OK, thanks.
