I have windows2000 service pack 4. I have about 7 jobs set to run from
scheduled tasks. These have worked well up until about three weeks ago.
Suddenly they run only sporadically. maybe one will run a day, and not the
same one. The only error message that I get is "Could not log on". PLEASE
HELP.

go back in to each task and re-enter the password for the account it is
supposed to run as. have seen a machine here forget the scheduled task
passwords also, apparently randomly. entering the passwords again seems to
fix it.

If this is a domain computer using domain credentials to run these tasks
make sure that the computer has good connectivity to the domain controller
and that it is configured to use only AD domain controllers running dns with
the domain zone as it's preferred dns server as shown via Ipconfig /all. I
would also run the netdiag support tool on it looking for pertinent failed
tests and check Event Viewer for any clues. --- Steve

I have found the problem. I think!!! One of the servers that the various
jobs have to communicate with has had a great deal of difficulty and has
been down, off and on, for the last three weeks. (mostly down). The job
streams do not successuflly complete, and so do not log off. I have set all
of them to stop running after a reasonable amount of time, but I don't think
that logs them off. Then when the next job attempts to log on it can't.
This remote server has been up steadly for two days, and my jobs are back to
running on time.
