scatter chart data label problem

I have 2 columns of data for an x,y scatter chart in Excel
2000. Another column on the left contains the labels that I
want to show up next to the points on the graphs. However,
when I add data labels or values, the chart only shows the
data. Can anyone help me find a way to show the real labels
(A-D), not the numerical data? Thanks in advance.

A 2 6
B 5 23
C 1 10
D 3 11
