Scansoft loading on boot

I am disabling programs that load into memory somewhere when I boot.
I see their logo come on the screen at bootup, so I guess it uses some
kind of memory.

So now I'm at "Scansoft". In programs, in scansoft, are "paperport" &
"Pageviewer". I am assuming that one (pageviewer??) or both of these
programs might auto-load a page somewhere on the Internet for viewing
- but really don't know. Does anyone know if these scansoft programs
ever come into use?

If the answer is "No" or "once in a blue moon", I'd like to disable
scansoft from taking up some of my memory when booting - can't I
manually engage the proper program if ever I need to anyway?

If I do decide to disable it, how do I do it without deleting it?

Start/Run/type MSCONFIG and click OK/startup tab/now uncheck/disable everything except your anti-virus program, if Norton, it will start with NAV/click Apply/OK and reboot
P.S. Disabling/unchecking does not delete anything, it just stops the applications from activating at boot and you'll have a lean, mean machine which will run a lot faster.

ScanSoft / PaperPort is scanning software. If you do not use a scanner, you
do not need to have the software run at startup. If you have a scanner, it
is useless without software (sort of like a computer without an operating
system).

They DO NOT "auto-load a page somewhere on the Internet for viewing"

If you seldom use a scanner and want your computer to boot/run faster,
follow the advice given by Byte. Keep in mind, however, that when you do
want to use your scanner, you will need to launch the scanner software
before you launch the program that you want to scan into.
