Where and how can I scan a document so that it can be
edited with Windows XP and using Microsoft Word 2002.

If you have Word 2002, then you may also have a program called Microsoft
Office Document Scanning/Imaging which you'll find under Start > Programs >
Microsoft Office Tools. It will allow you to scan a document, OCR the text
and output the result to Word.
