Scanning slides?

Is there any way I can scan old 35mm slides successfully with my
standard AstaSlim scanner in this XP PC please? Efforts so far with
combinations of high resolution, varied brightess/contrast, white
sheet behind, etc, have all produced muddy blurs.

there may well be and I would be interested to know, BUT several people have
told me that unless there is a slide adaptor with your scanner [calibrated
to give the correct distance between slide and scanner] then the answer is
no. I have managed with negatives but not very well

Thanks. Does anyone have any more information about these adaptors
please? Can I improvise one? Buy one (in UK) separately from scanner?

No other way of getting slides digitised?

Thanks, John. That looks a good candidate. Another product my googling
found was the Genius ColorPage-HR7X USB Slim (1200x2400 dpi, 5
buttons, Transparency Adapter) Scanner (K933B040) £63.39

Based on comments elsewhere that slides need illumination from above,
I experimented with simply opening the lid, masking most of the glass,
and positioning a light above. But my scanner insisted on reporting
'Scan Read Error', so I've given up.

Just irks me to have to buy a whole new scanner, and go through the
potential hassle of installing it with XP's Plug 'n Pray, when all I
need is a little adaptor!

You're welcome.

I have seen some reports of various home
grown methods but I'm thinking you would
have better results with a proper scanner.

Here's an article that may offer some ideas
