scanning question

I have so many traditional slides i would like to scan into my powerpoint
presentations.

Question is how. I have tried and all i get is this small dark slide.

can anyone walk me thru the process............. gently

You will get the best results if you use a scanner that's designed to scan 35mm slides. For instance, we have a flatbed scanner at the office which also has an attachment thingy to place the slides in. Then we specify that we're scanning 35mm slides in the scanner options.

At any rate, since your 35mm is probably about 1"-1.5" across and your PPT slide is probably about 10" across, you'll want to scan somewhere between 700% and 1000% to get enough resolution to fill your PPT slide with your 35mm image. Basically, you're shooting for about 800 pixels wide for the resulting image. If the math is easier, shoot for 1000 pixels wide -- that won't bloat your file size too much.
