Is there a way to scan a legal size doc with a regular
scanner and bring it into works or word? Can someone
explain how this is done. Using XP Home, Canon scanner.

What scanning program are you using? You should be able
to configure the paper size from letter to legal on the
scanning options.

Or, if does scan is as letter, when you're in Word
go to File|Page setup| Paper and change the paper
size to legal.

I am using the software that came with the scanner. Canoscan I think is the name of it. I am at work now so I can't try your suggestion out right now. What I think will be the problem is that I think the doc that I want to scan is longer then the scanner

Canon produces a neat little utility called Photostitch that allows you to
join images from your scanner/camera. I use it for the panoramic photo shots
on my web site. You may have a copy with your Canon software package.

That *is* the trick. You can't scan a document larger than the bed of the
scanner in one operation.
