I've had a quick look at this USA website http://www.scantips.com - has anyone
in (particularly) Australia purchased the book of the contents "A Few Scanning
Tips", and if so would you recommend it for beginners as myself, or are there
other written sources more easily / cheaply available locally (i.e. in
Australia).....?

NB Posted to 2 NGs.....

Thanks,

The scantips site fails to explain how a scanner's hardware and software
influence a scan, or how to get a raw scan. Not sure if the book will do
any better.

I have read quite a few books on scanning, and found the following to be
the most informative:

Real World Scanning and Halftones (3rd Edition) by David Blatner
(Author), Glenn Fleishman (Author), Steve Roth (Author), Conrad Chavez
(Author)

Paperback: 352 pages ; Dimensions (in inches): 0.66 x 9.16 x 7.36
Publisher: Peachpit Press; 3rd edition (April 8, 2004)
ISBN: 0321241320

David,

I bought the book a number of years ago, simply to have it as a
hardcopy reference. I used it for about six months, and then gave it
away to a friend who was getting into scanning. Also my scanning needs
changed to solely using a 35mm scanner, and the book / site covers all
scanning modes.

It was useful for when I couldn't be bothered to look up the site, and
the most useful part of it for me, was the explanation between scannng
resolution and printing resolution.

Don't know what part of Sydney you're in, but the Borders store at the
Macquarie Center (North Ryde) has a good imaging software section, and
I recall seeing one or two books dedicated to scanning techniques there.
