I just purchased a new HP running windows xp home edition, connected my primax flatbed scanner, all connections are correct and secure, drivers are installed, updated,rolled back, and it says that it is there and running ok. But when I try to use it it tells me that it is not there.

Is this a USB scanner or a parallel port one? If parallel, you're not
connecting it piggy back style with a printer are you? XP does not support
piggybacking.
