I have install my Scanner successfully (so it says) but I
get an Device Error Code 31(Windows cannot load driver for
this device)
The scanner has a USB connector. When I go into scanner
properties, it seems that I can connect only to LPT1 or
Com1.
What is it that I am doing wrong?

Thx.

i have a visioneer scanner, and i had to install the
software BEFORE i connected the scanner to the computer.
Otherwise it didnt work. Try disconnecting the scanner,
installing the software, then reinstalling the scanner.

This seems a likely answer to me as well. Most USB printers and scanners
need to create a port "USB001:" or similar in order to install correctly.
If this isn't done (e.g. the software wasn't installed before the scanner
was plugged in) then the scanner/printer can't find a port.

Absolutely. We have a bunch of those Visioneer XP200 scanners at work.
The boss screwed things up thoroughly by plugging his in first before
installing the software. Yet another reminder of the vast field of
knowledge an I.T. pro needs at his fingertips. <G>

There are warnings all over the place both on the scanner itself as
well as the software not to do that. The solution I had to go to was a
reinstall (well a backup Ghost image).
