scanner trouble

just purchased new dell, trying to connect old printer
and scanner. when i try to use scanner it says " scanner
not initilized(scanner not found" but in checking the
administrative tools. It sid 7022 event, service start
hung. message : the %1 service hung on starting. It says
to start manually, but i don't know how. some one please
help. I am new at this

Go to ControlPanel and uninstall the scanner. Turn PC
off and reboot. Now plug the scanner back in and
WindowsXp's "plug&play" feature should find it and ask
you if you want to install it. Answer Yes and have your
installation disk ready to insert.
