Scanner Setup on Epson CX5400

I can't seem to get the scanner portion of the CX5400 to
operate.

The driver install fails with the same message each time:
The Install Shield Engine (iKERNAL.EXE)
could not be launched. Error loading
type library/dll. This is from the CD Install disk

Tried deleting the INSTALLSHIELD folder as instructed by
Epson, but this does not work.

Any ideas?
