Hi,

OS: Windows Vista. I am struggling with the installation of CanoScan
N67OU. It used to run splendidly under Windows XP. It is on the list
of Vista compatible hardware so I thought it would be a piece of cake
to make it run under Vista. I downloaded and installed Vista driver
and software (ScanGear Toolbox) from the web site (usa.canon.com) but
the toolbox won't communicate with the scanner. I get the following
error message when trying to do so:

"Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable (USB) may be disconnected.
Scanner driver will be closed."

The cable is not an issue. It is securely plugged in both ends, so it
must be another reason why the scanner won't work. The scanner makes a
sound when I boot up or unplug/plug the USB, which indicates, I
believe, there is some connection but apparently not the right one.
Anybody out there who has got some ideas of how to go about trying to
find out what is the matter?

And you are very sure that the transport-lock on your scanner is
not engaged (by accident maybe) ? :-)

If the transport lock is not the problem it still might be worth trying
another cable. I have run into cables that would work fine on one computer
and not another. Connectors in the PC's can vary slightly from one to
another due to wear or lack there of.
