Scanner problem, microsoft posts a "fix"

I have an HP all in one but my scanner won't work. I have
spent over 4 hours with HP Techs and they say it is
microsoft. They sent me to an article where microsoft
admits there is a problem and they say to call them for a
fix... but wonderfully they don't bother to give a direct
phone number, instead I'm supposed to call my computer
manufacturer except that they want to charge me and kept
me on hold for over a half an hour without helping me.
If microsoft knows there is a problem, admits to having a
fix for it and offers assistance, then why do they make
it so darn hard to get in touch with them for this fix??

Any help is greatly appreciated!
