When I got windows xp home edition and hooked up by HP
ScanJet 4100C it worked just fine. Now the computer
decided I don't have a scanner or doesn't recognize it.
I have tried to re install it but can't and the
connections are are there. I think I have to download
something from HP but I have no idea what it is. Help.
Thanks

You really got it to work? I had the same scanner and when I got XP Pro the
scanner wouldn't work, HP said that they didn't write drivers for xp and I
was out of luck. I really needed my scanner so I bit the bullet and bought
another one... (4570) I don't like it as well as the much less expensive
4100...

According to the following KB article....WinXP
includes drivers for your HP 4100c scanner.

(293356) Windows XP: List of Scanners That Are Supported by
Windows Image Acquisition
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293356

Have you tried uninstalling all of your scanners and
then restarting your computer with the 4100c connected
and turned on? Maybe WinXP will recognize new
hardware and install the driver for you.

Also, theres a WinXP update for your 4100c at the
following site (I suspect this is an update for the driver
that WinXP installs):

hp scanjet 4100c scanner drivers
http://tinyurl.com/kjvy

And...if that fails...it might be worth a try to install the
Win2000 drivers.

You're welcome.

You are correct...the WinXP drivers are
somewhat limited but at least they allow
you to use your hardware.

At least you're still using your scanner :o)

Thanks for the update.
