I'm looking for scanner than used to scan a book.

I've a huge number of books and I want to archive by a computer.

Do you can give me a different type of scanner? ???

Here is a gadget that will turn the pages automatically,
and respects the spine of the book.

Devices like this are cheaper, but don't look too book
friendly. Perhaps if the scanner was elevated above the
work surface, the book would only have to open to 90 degrees.

This looks easier for the user to use. I don't know if
this still involves a linear array sweeping the work
surface, or is actually a camera in disguise.

Without an automatic page turning device, the scan time
per page it paramount. I've scanned 100 pages by hand,
and swore I'd never do it again. If you are attempting
to scan a library, you'll do some swearing too :-)
For a "huge" number of books, the first link I provided
appears to be the right way to do it. Maybe you could
rent one, rather than buy it.

Get the cold cathode type since LED scanners (thin profile) have much
less depth of field, meaning the areas of the pages near the book
spine, which won't lay flat against the scanner bed, wil much more
likely to come out illegible.

Unless you get a really expensive one used by libraries etc its
probably going to be a hellish job.

Heres Plustek for $240 or so which claims to do a better job on books
but its a standard type of scanner. The easiest type of archiving
would probably be done on a devive you can open on some surface with
the spine open and a camera like device takes the pic from above so
that you can turn the pages easily. That would probably cost a small a
fortune though.
