I would like to buy a scanner for my grandfather. Ease of use is more
important than features. On a PC literacy scale of one to ten I'd have to
say he's a four. I do plan to direct him to scanning tip sites and so
forth after he has it, but I think it would be good to start out with
something that comes with a simple scanning wizard. He repaired and flew
Double Wasp R2800 engines in WW2 but Mr. Gates' wonderful creation has
him stumped most of the time.

I would recommend the Canon CanoScan 8400F scanner. It has a simple
interface for beginners and an advanced interface for more experienced.

The Canon CanoScan 8400F can also scan 35 mm film and 120 or 6x7cm film
(medium format) with the built in light in the lid.
