scanner error - valid source in the TWAIN directory?

The first error is to check the connection and power. Those two are
fine. I have even replaced the scsi cable.

The second error is:

"Could not open the Twain Source. Make sure there is a valid source for
your scanner in the TWAIN directory found in the Windows directory."

The mirafoto software is in windows/twain_32 directory.

Should there be a specific file in a specific location that I should
look for?

Perhaps the installation program is not putting the right file where it
needs to go, and I can manually fix that?

For SCSI scanners, set the ID switch in the rear of the scanner to 2.
Disconnect the scanner, then install the software. Connect the scanner and
turn it on before turning on the computer.

Benq FAQ. Mirascan is the Twain for Acer and Benq flatbed scanners. Mirafoto
is the Twain for Acer and Benq film scanners. Pay attention to Q6.

I went through this, and I did finally get the Acard to show up in the
deice manager (it never did on the old computer, and didn't during the
first install on this computer). But it still gives the same error when
I try to scan an image.

I can't think of anything else wrong, unless the scanner itself isn't
working right.

I was told on a mailing list for the scanner that if the Acard is
recognized, and the scanner is not, then the scanner is broken.

That is probably true, If the Acard shows in Device manager, and Windows
says this device is working, then the Scanner is probably dead.

In Windows XP, it shows in the Device manager under
SCSI and RAID controllers (click on plus sign to open)
ACARD AEC-6710D SCSI Controller (Win 2000/XP)

In Windows 98:
SCSI controllers (click on plus sign to open)
ACARD AEC-6710D PCI SCSI Controller
