What is a possible reason for a previously working HP scanner to "stop
communicating" with the computer? It has been tried on another computer
with the same result. The scanner is a year old but the model has been
discontinued.
Thanks

Have you checked the HP website feedback ? There are posts on the site
that talk about problems. Unfortunately HP is trying to maximize
profits by using really short warranties - as short as 3 months on
their low cost scanners and printers and limits support and even
software sometimes unless you pay.

The 3300 I bought on sale had humongoid problems - it would suddenly
cease to be recognized by the PC a zillion times a day. In the scanner
subs there were alot of posts in the past from irate HP budget scanner
owners who called them doorstops.

One thing - have you changed anything on your PC lately? Updated
Windows? Added some new device or software? The early USB
implementations on PCs tended to have alot of problems along with
early USB devices.

If you havent you might try updating Windows, drivers etc.
