Just recently, my new camera, a Kodas Easy Share 1485 IS, broke and was
replaced, same model. Software intact, I conntected it to my computer. I
was always able to see it automatically via My Computer when connected and
turned on. Well, now I can only view it via the software Kodak gives you, it
is NOT recognized in My Computer. The computer makes that bell sound and
said the new device was properly installed and ready to use, but it doesn't
appear. It is a pain in the neck (and other body parts) to use their
software. The old camera, before it stopped opening its lens and was shipped
back, was recognized via the same software. I even tried to update/repair
the software but to no avail. When I went to use the camera wizard, there
are only three choices to pick and none of those three are mine. I inserted
my disk but can't locate any setup info on it to use with the wizard.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2. Any suggestions to get my computer to
show me my camera again, like before it was replaced? Should be no different
now. Same camera, same software, nothing new except the actual camera
itself. And you CAN view the photos taken via Kodak's program only.

Thank you.

I've been using el cheapo Kodak Cameras for a few years.
And I don't install their software to run them.
Their software takes over your photos, as you found out, too!
If you make Videos with the camera, you have to have quicktime to view them;
so I don't use the video side of it, as I refuse to use Quicktime..lol.

Uninstall the Kodak Easy Share software, then plug your Camera in via the
USB cord supplied by them.
Found new hardware wizard(the 1st time), then the XP Wizard rears its head
to download your photos from the Camera.
And you can then save them in "My Pictures"

Mick,
Thanks for the reply. I tried that already, sorry not to have mentioned it.
I totally removed the software, plugged in the camera, in three different
USB ports, and no luck. Doesn't even show up in the Device Mgr.

So I took the camera, plugged it into another computer in our house and, lo
and behold, there is was, showing up normally. It is my computer, not the
camera, so I don't know how to resolve an issue like this when you can't see
it, yet you hear it connect with the ding-ding and yet it's nowhere to be
found.

Any other ideas, please???

Thank you.

And delete the driver from here:
C:\WINNT\system32\DRIVERS\DcCam.sys

Run disk clean up on your Drive.
You can download this tool o run clean up:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim

Run this command:
sfc /scannow click [OK] get your XP Installation media ready, the system
may ask for it to repair corrupt/damaged file may be found by the sfc.

Reboot your machine after the system file checker finished and then connect
the Cam, does the system detect it?
Make sure the Plug &Play service is running in the services control panel.

Nass,
Just spent a considerable amount of time doing what you wrote and no luck
whatsoever. My computer makes the ding-ding when the camera is turned on,
but you can't find it anywhere.

I was unable to figure out how to make sure the Plug & Play service is
running. MAYBE that is it? It's the only thing that I couldn't do. But I
can't understand why all of a sudden this is happening when the other camera
was seen no problem. And the camera is seeable in other computers in our
house.

Thanks.

I guess there is nothing left but to uninstall the root hub. I've tried it
all. I just can't understand how one camera, the identical one, was seen and
this replacement for it is not. I think it's really something simple, but
it's just not coming to light yet. Hate to tamper with a working computer
otherwise for this, but...

tricky, having to do with my job and $3,500 software that is protected. I

Hi Lori,
Assuming that you read all the info and performed most if it, I hope!
Removing the USB Root hub will not affect your software, it rather if it
didn't install will affect your hardware, but it shouldn't.

Do you have other Devices (External ones) connected to this machine?

It is easy and simple open a run command and type in:
devmgmt.msc click [OK]
On Device manager highlight the USB Root Hub device(s) and Click
Action and select "Uninstall" to uninstall them, then restart your computer.
Window will detect and reinstall the USB Root hub for you.

Hi, Nass. Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Now, are you saying just uninstall the one that is showing me the Kodak
digital camera? And if I do that, I don't know why that would make a
difference. Could you tell me what the goal in doing that is? It is
recognizing it, but My Computer is just not showing it. That is what is so
strange to me. Maybe I'm missing the point here. If I am, I apologize.

my disk but can't locate any setup info on it to use with the wizard.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2. Any suggestions to get my computer to
show me my camera again, like before it was replaced? Should be no different
now. Same camera, same software, nothing new except the actual camera
itself. And you CAN view the photos taken via Kodak's program only.

Thank you.

Hi Lori,
Uninstall the Software and delete the Folders, which will be left in these
directories:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINNT\Application Data\Kodak
C:\ProgramFiles\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare software\bin\EasyShare.exe
C:\Program Files\Kodak\KODAK Software Updater\7288971\Program\Kodak Software
Updater.exe

HTH,
nass

Okay, let see this another way!
You saying it looks been detected but the computer doesn't show it. Do you
mean it doesn't open Automatically and you need to open/Double click My
computer to open manually from there or it doesn't show at all?

Can you see it in Device manager?
If you can then try to remove it and restart your machine and see if that
will solve the issue.

I mean by removing the Root Hub for all, just remove all the entries there
for the USB Root Hub as in this picture on this link:

http://wwwuk.kodak.com/global/en/service/publications/tib4211.jhtml?pq-path=8895

You didn't answer my question about if you have other External devices
connected on this machine, it could be an IRQ or I'm thinking now a power
issue but this far from if your description for the issue accurate.

If the autoplay wizard is the problem try this fix from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...b6-e8fa-45c4-a171-1b389cfacdad&DisplayLang=en

If the above didn't help try to get these keys entries and send it in your
next post.

Okay. I tried that wizard for Plug and Play and when it got to the My
Computer drives pages, it said if the drive didn't appear, close the wizard
and plug it in and turn it on and try again. Well, that's my whole problem:
My computer never sees it! There is not drive letter associated with the
camera when it's one, even though it does show in Device Manager in a USB
Root Hub. That is the whole crux of the problem here.

I will try deleting the hub if you think that will work, but I'm just not
figuring out what happened between the camera this replaced and this one.
Seems there HAS to be a connection there.

ALAS - THE SOLUTION:

FINALLY, Kodak solved the problem. I had to go to my Device Manager, right
click under the USB Root Hub that said Kodak Digital Camera and choose to
update the driver. But instead of allowing it to choose what driver to
install for me, I had to choose from the list of TWO choices and pick Digital
Still Camera. Lo and behold, it's now seen in My Computer and it working.

So all's well that ends well. Thank you, Nass, for hanging in here with me
and giving me your suggestions. I knew it had to be something simple. Thank
goodness finally Kodak wrote back with an easy solution. Have a very happy
hoilday.
