Other than regular maintenance, cleaning the feed rollers and just general cleaning there is not much one can do without replacing parts. Of course a few choice words helps. <g>

D drietow Jun 8, 2005 #3 An IBM repair told me about using a rage with a little WD40 on it to clean the rubber rollers for printers. I used it on a HP FAX/PRINT/SCAN document feeder and it worked great.
