dear scan gurus
i try to install a scanjet 4c on a w2k pc on an adaptec 2930 scsi-adapter.
is hp supporting this combination; what software should i install to run the
scanner.
given its age, I'd be surprised if HP even offered support for the 4C any
longer (of course, one could argue they *never* offered support, but that's
for another thread ;-)
What you need to do:
1 - Install the standard Win2k drivers for the 2930. Power down, pull the line
cord from the wall to the PC, plug the 2930 into a free PCI slot (preferably a
slot using an unshared INTA#), plug the line cord back in and power up the
system. Win2k should recognize the card was installed it should walk you
through the driver installation. When complete, check Device Manager, if no
"bangs" you're good to go to step 2.
2 - Install Deskscan 2.9 (search for "sj167en.exe"). Install it BEFORE you
connect and power up the scanner (emphasis relayed from installation
procedure).
3 - power down the system
4 - connect the scsi cable to the 4C
5 - plug in the line cord for the 4C
6 - power up the system and boot to windows
Win2K should now detect the 4C and associate it with the previously installed
scanner applications and drivers. There's a scanner communication test widget
that is installed with Deskscan 2.9, give that a try before using any scanner
applications.
I used Win2K with my trusted old 4C for a few years before moving on to XP Pro
- where my 4C still works perfectly. I originally drove the 4C from a 2940 and
then a 19160, both with Win2K, so yours should work as well...
