I'm using Office 2003 on a new high-end PC using Windows
XP Home. When Office 2003 could not do .pst file back-
ups, it suggested that I run the Inbox Repair Tool.
However, this tool would not run, citing CRC errors and
suggesting that I run ScanDisk. [This happened with both
my "new-format" .pst file and my "old-format" .pst file.]

I've searched my PC and Microsoft resources, and I cannot
find ScanDisk (or reasonable name variations) on my PC.
How can I access it?

Thanks.

Bill

You will have to run chkdsk from the command prompt at
the drive you want scanned (not a mapped drive) such as
C:. You can type chkdsk /f for a regular check of the
drive with error correction or chkdsk /r for a thorough
check with error correction. It will say:

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Just type y and enter. At the next prompt be sure to
type exit to get out of the command prompt. If you just
click on the red "X", it won't run.

Hope this helps,

Scott

Thanks, I found it. Unfortunately, the C: drive on my
new PC has failed.

Good thing is they usually fail while new (and under warranty) or last forever.
