I just got Win XP PRO, I used to have Windows 98 SE. In
Windows 98 there is scandisk. Is there something like
that in WIN XP PRO? I heard that its there but its called
check disk but i can't find that either.

Open My Computer, right-click on the drive icon for the drive on which you
want to perform check disk and select Properties>Tools tab and click on the
Check Now button under Error-checking.

Regards,

Open Windows Explorer, right click the drive, select Properties, go to the
Tools tab, click "Check Now" under Error Checking.

Windows XP has a "Checkdisk" error-checking utility that replaced
the old "Scandisk" utility in previous versions of Windows.

Try the following maintenance suggestions:

What the others wrote. Optionally, enter: chkdsk at a command prompt.

It's called "checkdisk," but the executable program is spelled
"chkdsk.exe"

At the Start | Run line, you can enter CHKDSK, or you can do it
as others have suggested, from My Computer or Windows Explorer.

Slight correction to Tony's post: at a "Command Prompt" or "Start/Run"
window, type "chkdsk /f" [BE CERTAIN a space precedes /f] and click "OK".

It was moved to a curious location.

Right click My Computer, select OPEN. click on the drive
you want to check, usually C: and pull down the File Menu
and select Properties. Click on the Tools tab and select
Error Checking. The Check Disk utility window will open.

Stupid isn't it?
