The USN Jounal provides a persistent log of all changes made to files on a volume.

USN = Update Sequence Number

For more information, visit:

Go to Control Panel > Admin. Tools > Event Viewer > Application > Winlogon
after running Check Disk to see the report.

Well first off, my friend, scandisk has been replaced by checkdisk
(technically 'chkdsk' or 'error checking') in Windows XP. What you are
seeing is normal. Chkdsk likes to tell us what it's doing, as if we
understand.

BTW, the 'Update Sequence Number' journal is a feature of the NTFS file
system. Wasn't that obvious? (:-)
