I have Windows 2000 professional. I can't find Scandisk.
Every morning, it takes several trys to get my computer to
start up and I have no idea what the problem is. I either
get a completely blank screen or instructions to press F8,
which does nothing. I started deleting files and
programs, ran AOL Fix (HA!) and then started looking for
Scandisk. I can't find it on this computer. I also can't
find Microsoft Word. I bought this thing used. Wonder if
someone removed these two items to drive me insane or if
they are just hidden. Somebody please help me!
Thanks!

HAH! I didn't even notice the real cause of the problem when I first read
the original post.

To montana: when you buy a computer, whether new or used, it does not come
with ALL of the possible options you might want. You typically get an
operating system, and, yes, it does include some useful utilities. But Word
is generally no automatically included.

Also, if the system you bought did not come along with the original w2k
installation CD (and possibly a separate token of authenticity), it is quite
possible that you do not have what might be considered a legal copy of the
o/s (or indeed, any other commercial software that *might* be present).
Perhaps no big problem if your system never crashes, but if it does and you
have not got the installation package, Microsoft will not be able to help
you.

And finally, when you ran "AOL Fix", were you expecting it to fix whatever
is causing your computer to not do what you want it to do? And why, oh why,
did you think deleting files and programs at random would cause missing
items to suddenly re-appear?
