This is an easy one for someone. How do I do scandisk on
Windows Xp??? I see defrag, but I can't find a separate
scandisk. Thanks.

Click on Start/My Computer/, then Right click on your hard drive and select
Properties/Tools and look for Error Checking.

It is "Check Disk" in XP. Two of the ways: (1) Start/My Computer/right click
the Hard Drive(Disc-it is usually "c")/Properties/Tools/at the top you will
see "Error Checking" which is the "Check Disk" Tool. (2) Start/Run/type
"cmd.exe and click "OK"/In the Command Prompt window, type "chkdsk c: /f"
and press the keyboard Enter key.

There is no scandisk on Windows XP. The XP equivalent is called
chkdsk.

Greetings --

WinXP does not have a program called "Scandisk," as this was a
Win9x/Me program. Instead, because WinXP is descended from the
WinNT/2K OS family, it has a command line utility called "Chkdsk,"
which performs much better, as it's not burdened with presenting a
pretty picture of moving blocks of color while it's working.

From the command prompt (Start > Run > Cmd), type "Chkdsk.exe /?"
for the correct syntax and available options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.

Start> Run> eventvwr.msc

Look in the Applications branch for "Winlogon" entries. One of these will
be the chkdsk report. Double click to view details.
