Hi. Just installed a new Maxtor Fireball3 40Gb drive in
a Compaq Prosignia 7500 series PC and did a fresh install
of Windows 2000. Runs fine and had no issues during
install except sound drivers which I later downloaded
from ESS. Every time the PC is started Scandisk runs
even though the shutdown is clean. I suspect that the
drive's cache is not being written to disk before the
system shuts down. Does anyone have a fix for this? A
search of the knowledgebase got hits only for Me and W98.

Look into HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute, there should
be a default value 'autocheck autochk *' only (no other autochecks).

Thanks, Jetro.
Registry was OK. Did BIOS update (always a good start)
and the problem went away.
Cheers,
Bill
