hello i am useing windows xp pro . dose xp not have a scandisk
feature so u can fix or check for errs
Windows NT (XP is NT 5.1) does not use scandisk, which is a Windows 9x tool.
The command in NT is "chkdsk /f".
The best way to check volumes in XP is to:
1) Open My Computer
2) Right-click on the volume you want to check
3) Choose "Properties" from the popup menu
4) Click on the "Tools" tab
5) Click on "Check now" button
6) Make sure "Fix file system errors" is checked.
6a) If you want to check the physical disk for errors, make sure "Scan for
and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked. However, this will take a
LONG TIME.
7) When you are ready, click on "Start"
After clicking on "Start", you will get a message to the effect that chkdsk
is not able to run because the volume is in use, so chkdsk will run on the
next manual reboot. Simply reboot when you are ready for chkdsk to run.
This is because chkdsk cannot operate on a volume which is currently in use.
