scandisk just hangs...

I am trying to get my aunt's computer back to normal after just dealing with
trojans and whatnot. So far i've done ok. My question/problem is this: I have
tried several times to run scandisk and all it does is give me 3 bars and
just sits there saying it's scanning. It never finishes. I went ahead and
defragged and tried to scan disk again, but to no avail. What am I doing
wrong?

Scandisk.exe is a Windows 98 program. You should use chkdsk.exe
instead. Try this.
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type this command:
chkdsk c: /f

You must also install a good virus scanner and a firewall. PCs
belonging to senior people are notorious for being infected with
viruses and getting hacked, because seniour people often think
that they are not at risk. Little do they know that their PCs are
being abused by hackers and spammers.
 
Ok, I understand what your telling me. I am running whatever came with Win
2000 Pro. and all it does is hang there. Should I still try your sugestion?
