When I try to use scandisk, it gets 3 or 4 green dots
then stops, I am new, can someone give me an easy
solution?
When i first got this pc, it worked fine, now it just
won't finish scanning. Thankyou

Your computer might be running to many processes at once
when you try to do a scandisk.
To get a better (but slower) scan, go to My Computer,
then right-click on C:\ (or whichever drive you're having
trouble with)and choose Properties, then click the Tools
tab and you'll see a little menu with Scandisk on it.
Click 'Check Now' and select both options for the scan.
Then click 'Start.' Windows will then complain to you
that you need to restart for it to scan, do so. And
before your unit finishes booting up, Windows will scan
your drive. (hopefully without any problems)
Good Luck!

Hi,

There is no scandisk for XP, it should be CHKDSK.
For a thorough check disk, type CHKDSK /F and windows
would prompt you that it would start after restarting
windows.

Hi,
CHKDSK ran and found no errors but computer won't start
again. If I shut it off manually, it just starts CHKDSK
again when I turn it back on. At the end it shows no
errors but doesn't start Windows. It just hangs. HELP!!!

Sorry for my verbal blunder there, Peter. I was just
assuming that you would understand what I was refering to.
Oops...

During the bootup process, hit the F8 key. This should get
you to a startup menu. If you're lucky and make it there,
either select to boot up in 'Safe Mode' or try the 'Last
Good Config.' option. If in Safe Mode, try to do a chkdsk
scan there, then reboot. If that doesn't work, then do
the 'F8 during bootup' crap again and try 'Last Good
Config.'
Sorry if my earlier tip caused you any misery!
