I have today downloaded the updated version 1.0.614. I
ran a full scan before and got the following results:
Memory 1334
Files 38906
Reg 9451 Total time 11 mins 47 sec.
After downloading the new version, I got these results:
Memory 1169
Files 21773
Reg 9451 Total time 11 mins 26 sec.
The new version seems to have scanned 165 less on the
Memory and 17133 less on the files. Quite a difference.
Has anyone else found this or does anyone know why. Is
the 1.0.614 not scanning all files like the old version?
Thanks for any help or advice.

Others have reported similar results, but I don't have any feedback from
Microsoft or theories of my own to offer about what is happening, I'm
afraid. Thanks for noticing and reporting!

Thanks, but surely that makes the older version more
reliable than this latest one if it isn't scanning all
files and memory. I am a bit worid about that.

The question of how many files need to be scanned for the product to be
effective has come up periodically in these groups.

Many have noted that Microsoft Antispyware scans FAR fewer files than a
complete scan by a given antivirus product, for example.

My fallback response has been that it seems to scan enough files to get the
job done--and excel in objective comparison tests by reviewers.

I don't know what's happening with the change in this build--whether this is
a bug/regression, and thus a change for the worse, or whether they've
figured out a way to scan fewer files and maintain the same level of
effectiveness.

I'll see whether theres any publicly releasable information that might
relate to this that I can quote, but otherwise we'll just have to watch to
see whether the cleaning and scanning seems to be as effective as ever.
Initial reports I've seen are that they are improved.
