i am having numerous problems with this anti-spyware.. i
first downloaded and it worked great but then it would
never load up again. it would say i was missing a certain
GIANT****.exe file. i would update the software and it
would run but only once before the same problem arose.
Now i cannot even get it to run.. I will go into the
program and then it will just exit and then i cannot even
open it again.. anyone else encounter this?

What other security, antivirus, or antispyware programs are you running at
the same time?

Which precise version of Norton? The normal antivirus apps don't seem to
cause any issues, but Norton System works 2005 seems to have some
significant interactions. I don't believe that Spybot Search & Destroy
should be any problem.

There were some reports of other programs that included script blocking
functionality blocking something related to the install, such that it almost
seemed as though the program had been uninstalled the next time the user
tried to start it up. Your report is reminiscent of those. I don't have a
simple answer as to how to fix this, except to have as little as possible in
terms of third-party apps and services running while you install and do the
first run of Microsoft Antispyware.

I'm not sure of the exact version but its not the 2005.

i will try unstalling it tonight and reinstalling it with
nothing else open and see what happens..

thanks for your help... i appreciate your responses.

I've run into it when the spyware is configured to turn
off the computer as a defense mechanism. I recently had
one that I finally gave up on and just reimaged it. It
was one of the worse VX2 variants combined with Coolweb I
believe, that and a 3rd spyware. The Microsoft program
would say it was removing it and then it would be back.
Then it would shut down suddenly when the beta program hit
a file and tried to remove it. My programmer also ran into
it on a computer they were servicing. I spent 10 hours
looking for all the places it was hiding and 10 hours
reimaging the machine, he spent 20 hours finding where the
VX2 was hiding. Nasty little critters.
