Would someone be so kind as to tell me where the Scan Disk function went to.
In Win98 it was in accessories?

There is no "Scandisk" utility in Windows XP. XP uses "Checkdisk".
Windows XP has a "Checkdisk" error-checking utility that replaced
the old "Scandisk" utility found in previous versions of Windows.

Utilize the following utility programs, at least monthly, in this order:

Hi

Double click My Computer, right click the appropriate drive/partition, then
select Properties>Tools>Error-checking. Or from a command prompt type:

chkdsk /?

WinXP does not have a program called "Scandisk," as this was a
Win9x/Me program. Instead, because WinXP is descended from the
WinNT/2K OS family, it has a command line utility called "Chkdsk,"
which performs much better.

Start > Run > Cmd > Chkdsk.exe /? for the correct syntax and
available options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.
