Hi, cayjen.
WinXP does not include ScanDisk; that program was used in earlier Windows
versions. Do not attempt to use this utility in WinXP. For the official
word, see:
How to Perform Disk Error Checking in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q315265
To check your disk, right-click on it in My Computer and choose Properties.
On the Tools tab, click Check Now under Error-checking. This will run
Chkdsk on that drive. I would first run it without checking the boxes for
fixing errors; if you get a report, study it and ask here if you don't
understand it.
"Cannot open files for access"? Do you mean the Microsoft Access
application (part of MS Office)? Or simply that the file cannot be
accessed?

I have XP and was previously able to use scan disk but now, when my computer
reboots, it says it
cannot open files for access and I cannot scan my disk. Does anyone know how
to solve this problem?
