While attempting to run a thorough scan disk, I receive
the message - Scan disk has had to restart 10 times
because windows or another program is writing to this
drive. I have no other programs running (that I know of)
what can be done to correct this?

Hi

Try running chkdsk instead - either:

from a command prompt - typing

chkdsk /?

or by right clicking on My Computer and then highlighting a drive and
selecting Properties>Tools>error-checking

If you have XP, open a command prompt and type CHKDSK C: /F. Say "Y" when
it asks if you want to do this during a reboot. Reboot. Watch the screen
and you should see the CHKDSK running. This is a blue screen with white
characters, not the BIOS check screens, which are black with white
characters.
