Scan Disk

Everytime I turn my computer on scan disk comes on but
shows that it has re-started 10 times and hasn't been able
to complete. I have tried switching of Norton anti-virus
software but this does not help.

I have shut down the computer correctly and restarted but
scan disk still comes on but never manages to complete the
job.

Getting very desperate now - on the verge of throwing
computer out of the window.

Help please.

That error message from ScanDisk means that some program is writing
to the HD. Take a hard look at all of the apps that are started
automatically when you reboot; finding the culprit may be just
trial-and-error, unless you are pretty familiar with each app that
auto-starts.

Scandisk doesn't exist in XP.
